Holy Baptism at The Church of St Catherine & St John the Baptist,
Holy Baptism (sometimes called Christening) is a major part of life in our Parish, and can be arranged by appointment with the Clergy. There are a few things that you need to know before you make an appointment. Firstly, we expect that you will live in Old Colwyn or at least have very strong links with the Parish Church of St Catherine & St John the Baptist. Before we will make an arrangement for Holy Baptism we will invite you to come to our Parish Worship Service at 9.30am each Sunday so that you can experience our church for yourself. When you have been coming for a few weeks we will go on to discuss Baptism further if you decide that you would like to be a committed member of the Church. If you do not live in Old Colwyn, then we would encourage you to go to your local Parish Church.
When it comes to selecting Godparents for your child (who will promise during the Service that they will help you to bring up your child in the Christian Faith) you need to know that
the Law of the Church (Canon Law) requires that all Godparents must be baptised, and that they should be persons of good standing within their own church.
We will require proof (ie a photocopy) of the Certificate of Baptism of each of your chosen Godparents, and we can advise you how to get copy certificates if these are missing or lost. We also require parents and Godparents to undergo some preparation and we would expect to see them coming along to our Parish Worship Service (which takes place in church each Sunday at 9.30am) and becoming a part of the Church Family. Holy Baptism takes place by appointment with the Vicar.
We are developing a team of Pastoral Visitors who will call to see you in order to help you with any questions that you may have and to pray with you. In short we want to get to know you, and we promise a warm welcome at our church!
If you want to know more, then please contact the Parish Office.
